MrR’s Designernof the week
i really liked what Rachel has done with her clock design here. The use of the hand positions as time indicators is a nice piece of design. I like her colour choices here as well. This image doesn’t show he whole drain off as there is a white background. Hopefully we will follow up with A photo of the actual clock when finished.
User centred design workshop with David work and from grayscale
We were very lucky to have a workshop on user centric design organised by David Wieland of Grayscale web design. David really helped identify the nature of design and the need for design to solve real problems. The students considered “what if” scenario story telling as a mechanism for problem identification. David takes a lot about how users should be involved in the process in both the description of the problem and the development and testing of the solution as your ideas change.
The students then workshopped some ideas of their own exploring three key areas for evaluating ideas – the customer segment, the revenue stream and the value proposition.
Speed dating app pitches
here the mobile apps students are pitching their app ideas to each other in a speed dating forum. Each student pitch was 2 minutes long during which time they had to communicate the problem the app tries to address and answer any questions they were asked. The purpose of the exercise was to try and recruit people to their team which will lead to prototyping the app.
The noise was extreme and the energy good!!
Mr R’s Designer of he Week
I was amazed by 8R’s creative work in he last lesson and will get round to publishing a list of some of the work they completed for their clock project. However, one student really shone and that was Rochelle. Here is just some of he ideas she came up with in the lesson. What amazes me apart from the diversity of her ideas is the maturity of thinking and communication. Well done Rochelle!!
Year 8 Digital Literacy Logos Work
The unit on Logos Year 8’s do is part of their Media Literacy awareness in Digital literacy. We spend a number of weeks developing skills with vector graphics software before deconstructing logos and how they communicate. We work on typography, colour and shape before anlaysing a brief and developing ideas for that brief. Below are some of the best outcomes from this unit across the year. Well done all those whose work is featured.
Mr R’s Designer of the Week
It has been a while since I have identified someone who I wanted to celebrate as my designer of the week so it good to have the opportunity now. This week I would like to celebrate Wenxi. We have been working on the creative process in the design of our clocks. Wenxi has come up with a really nice idea and modelled it extremely well in preparation for he lesson where we start to take this into Adobe Illistrator for development. I look forward to seeing the result.

Year 8 Digital Citizenship Infographics
This year we tried a new way of addressing aspects of Digital Literacy with Year 8’s and asked them to research a topic and present their understanding in the form of an infographic. The students used a tool called Canva to help them with this task. There were many good examples coming out from the students. Here are a few…please click to see larger images of the work.
