Technology Faculty is Awarded the Design Mark

GDP_DESIGNMARK_POS_RGBGreat news!! The Technology Faculty was awarded the Design Mark after 2 years of hard work.  The Design Mark is a quality standards framework developed jointly by the DCSF, The Design Council and the Design & Technology Association. It is intended as an aspirational badge awarded to primary and secondary schools that demonstrate excellence in their teaching of design.

The process involves the faculty looking at all the work they do and evaluating it against the evidence criteria for the Design Mark.  The portfolio of evidence built up over the two years is significant and will soon be available on the Design Mark site.  Congratulations to the staff and students of technology who have helped to create this significant achievement!!

Photoshop Album Art Work from Year 8

A part of their Digital Literacy course in Year 8 students explore Photoshop and in particular are asked to create a piece of album art in the style of a particular music genre such as punk, rock, reggae, classical, RnB, disco etc.   Students research the genre and try to draw out the codes and conventions of the graphics that align with that genre.  Part of the creative brief is that they have to include an image of themselves in the design somewhere but it is up to them to what extent they appear.   Here are just some of the results from this year’s work which have been picked because of their attention to detail, reflection of the intended genre and imaginative use of the designers own image..

Mr Roper’s Designer of the Week

This week my designer of the week is Justin.  He completed his lamp which he has worked hard to finish to a high standard over the last few weeks.  The concept with the lamp is what is really interesting.  Instead of just being a simple lamp the fact that the top part is changeable allows for kits to be made that could effectively change the lamp design and allow it to be flat packed easier.  This is great design thinking.  Well done Justin!!

Year 9 finished lighting

Well it’s taken a while but the lighting project is starting to reach its end with some final products being realised. These students have all worked hard to achieve high quality outcomes. What has been really encouraging is the commitment to quality right to the end which demonstrates growing maturity as designers. These lights are by Douglas, Aayush, Wing and Krishna.

Magic of Animation Final Production Week

This was the final week for students to generate film ready for sound and editing for their final animations. There is a tremendous amount of creative decision making at this point and it becomes more clear about of the importance of planning. The students are all animating a message with clear audience and purpose. Some of the creative ideas that surround these messages are fabulous. Now they need to deliver!!

Mr Roper’s Designer of the Week

This week my Designer of the Week is Krishna.  In this lesson he really pushed his practical work, showing initiative and a desire to invest in his design spending extra time to finish this part of his work to a good standard. He also learned some new skills with drilling and knowledge of countersinking.  Well done!

Christmas Creativity in ICT

Just before we stopped for the Christmas break students in various classes got the chance to have a bit of seasonal fun and apply their creativity to the theme of Christmas.  A few minutes later and some nice motifs for cards, wrapping paper etc emerged.  Here are just a few of what was produced.  Enjoy!
