Y11 Engineers complete their manufacturing
This year’s Y11 Engineers have completed their practical work and have produced creative, solutions based outcomes that are of a very high quality. It has been a long and challenging process, but the results are fantastic. Well done everyone!
“HowStuffWorks” Elements course kicks off!
The first lesson of new Elements course “HowStuffWorks” has been a great success. Following the teaching concepts of the Maker Movement, students were independently upskilling in the areas of Microcontrollers, programming software and Cardboard modelling.
Fun and games for final week of Elements
The final week of Semester 1’s 3D Product Design Elements course produced some fantastic 3D printed chess pieces and laser engraved chess boards. Tasked with designing in Bauhaus style, the students have risen to the challenge of designing on industry standard CAD software to produce high quality CAM manufactured outcomes Well done!
Reducing e-waste
Yr 9 DT students having been applying sustainable design and manufacturing choices by re-using USB cables from old devices to power their USB LED lamps. Who knew your old iPhone 4 cable could have a new lease of life!
Y9 students shine a light on DT
Year 9 DT students have been developing a range of key skills through their minimalist USB powered LED project. Featured skills include: Soldering, Tapping, Measuring, Marking and Drilling.
Y11 Engineering Product realisation
Y11 Engineering students have been developing the first working prototypes of their Y11 coursework project having spent 5 months in the design process. From Arduino programming to 3D printing, the students have mastered a range of modern engineering skills to finally realise the engineering solution to their real world problem.
Pallet upcycling project
This semester’s 3D Product designers were asked to make bat boxes for several of the ESF primary schools and an art installation for IS using upcycled materials. Students learned and applied some traditional carpentry skills to produce their boxes and signs and reduced the need to “buy new” through their use of upcycled pallets.
Arts & Craft movement
The 3D Product Design Elements group were putting blood, sweat and tears into week 1 of a one-off, hand made Wine Bottle holder. Developing skills in copper inlaying, students will be able to appreciate why craftsmen/women charge a higher price for handmade goods. Tune in next week for the finished articles.
