Chocolate Week – Star bakers Liana and Jordan
Well done to Liana and Jordan , who were awarded star bakers , in week 3 of Sweet indulgence for their collaboration in making amazing caramel filled chocolates. They challenged themselves and used knowledge from the previous week by making perfect caramel in stead of buying ready made and tempered the chocolate to perfection.
Dawn of a new age – introducing the App Design Gamalan Orchestra
In a moment of inspired silliness the app design students made a simple, fun app that turned their mobile phones into bells. Accordingly an impromptu Campanological performance was done, the results of which are here for your amusement.
On a developmental note we may take this idea a little further and aim for an actual piece of recognisable music next time.
Star baker – Brita Cheng in confectionery week
Well done to Brita who was awarded Star baker in sweet Indulgence this week for the high level of challenge she set herself. She decide to attempt making pulled hard candy and even brought in her own heat proof gloves and mat and the her end product was perfect.
Lord’s Kitchen – week 1 Omelettes
The new Elements class began the course with the omelette challenge, which tests students organisation, working practices and heat control on the hob. After working in pairs to make their omelettes, we all judges them and decided which were the most professional looking. The winners of the first Cjhef of the week award went to Natalie/Alyssa and Chloe and Anna, as both pairs made restaurant standard dishes
After this we then started to look at knife skills and we made a batch of carrot and coriander soup, that served 100 people
Lord’s Kitchen HE Fair Buffet
The Lord’s Kitchen course culminated in them putting their skills and knowledge together to plan and prepare a finger food buffet for the visitors from all the Universities that were at Island school for the Higher Education Fair,
The was a vast selection on offer, including Mini Salmon Wellingtons, Vegetable Samosas, Chilli Beef Burritos, Falafel Wraps and Chocolate Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce. The students collaborated excellently all day and were very professional in the service, getting a lot of praise from all the visitors. Well done to all of themand I hope see them on the food courses in the future.

Animators Get Going on Personal Projects
The Elements animators have spent the last few weeks thinking about communication and how to originate a piece of animation that effectively communicates. The last couple of weeks we have been experimenting with materials and set ups to try to understand the complexities with bringing to life their ideas. Come back soon for the outcomes.
Lord’s Kitchen Christmas Lunch
True Collaboration today, as the class worked together to make the traditional roast turkey and all the trimmings, with a choice of two dessert and fake wine. A real end of term treat enjoyed by all.
Sweet Indulgence pastry weeks – Star Bakers (Natasha, Henry, Chiara and Natalie)
In the Sweet indulgence pastry weeks students were able to make whatever shortcrust pie or tart they wanted and then following week they could make anything with choux pastry. This was a serious test of their technique and skill in the closing weeks of the course can the standard was high as they battled it out ofor the last star baker awarrdIn the end Natasha won for her superb mango Cream Pie, Henry and Chiara for their proficiency in making eclairs and Natalie for her creativity and challengong herself in making choux pastry swan.
