Panna Cotta Styling – Star Bakers (Charlotte, Hayley, Leanna)

This week in Sweet Indulgence students designed and made their own panna cotta’s and then worked in groups to create sauces and garnishes to accompany the dish. they then had to style their plate to restaurant standard and then photograph then for their magazine they are designing. Well done to Charlotte, Hayley, Leanna who were voted Star bakers for their profession plate styling, but as you can see they all visually appealing.

In this lesson the students are learning how to measure themselves and draft up a pattern for a skirt.

This is all calculated individually and is a valuable skill to acquire

Lord’s Kitchen (week 3 – Meat). Chefs of the week – Agastya, Aika and Onni

In week 3 of Lord’s Kitchen we see how squeamish the students are, by tasking them with jointing a chicken and to be fair, they all took to the job like pros. The all made platters of creamy chicken casserole from the breast, breaded baked thighs and drumsticks and deep fried sweet chili chicken wings. It was hard to decide on the Chefs of the week, but Aika was very quick to joint her chicken and then helped others and Agastya and Onni, showed excellent teamwork to prepare their platter

Lord’s Kitchen Week2 (Vegetable Cuts) – Chefs of the Week Rachel and Katarina

This week the new Commis chefs in Lord’s Kitchen were honing their knife skills, by practicing the julienne cut and making stir fry and then practicing their dicing and making a soup. Rachel and Katarina were awarded chef of the week for having the best working practices and the most uniform vegetable preparation

Lord’s Kitchen – Week 1 Chefs of the week (Mike, Vanessa and Justin)

Well done to Mike, Vanessa and Justin who were awarded the first Chef of the week, of the year in Lord’s Kitchen. They showed the best working practices in the omelette challenge, doing their mise-en-place perfectly and had good heat control when cooking the omelette.

Fashion Forward

Our new cohort of students for the “Fashion Forward” Elements course in action draping existing garments in creative and interesting ways . 

Mr P’s wild Woodshop

Elements 3D designers were busy bees today, stepping back in time to develop some traditional woodworking and joinery skills. Haruka has produced a fantastic hardwood desk tidy, whilst the boys got to grips with drills and screws to put the final structural touches on previous semester’ 50th anniversary Picnic table! 

3D Product Designers work with CAD/CAM

This semester’s 3D Product design students have been learning how to design and manufacture products using CAD/CAM technologies. From 3D printed phone cases to CNC machined desk tidies and speakers, students have demonstrated their capacity to learn modern manufacturing techniques whilst following a modern minimalist design brief. 


Mobile App Designers Present their Ideas

The app design students have been looking at design for 2-4 year olds as an exercise in considering user interface and user experience design. They have tried to come up with an app idea in the realm of creativity, free play or education. They worked on a presentation board and oral presentation of their work.  We then voted on the best idea (hence the post it’s!!).  Here are the pictures. 

Choux Pastry Star Bakers – Richelle, Raphael Natasha and Tara

Well done to Richelle, Raphael  Natasha and Tara, who were awarded Star baker award this week, for collaborating to make a giant mountain of profit oles in Sweet Indulgence .They worked really well together to work out the most efficient system for preparing and shaping the batter, baking and filling and building the profiteroles and they were very pleased with their achievement. Many members of staff were also very pleased as they got to sample the delights after school.
