Cupcake Wars – Star Bakers, Brita, Chris and Yu
Cupcake Wars is back and the theme is celebration, in preparation for the IS 50th anniversary block party. There were some spectacular;art looking cupcakes and it was hard to decide on the best, but Brita (11F) won star backer for her excellent fondant work, Chris (11D) for creative design in a glass with pick a mix at the bottom and Yu (11R) for the amazing flavour.
Puff pastry challenge – Star bakers, Krishna and Chris
Well done to Chris (11D) and Krishna (11R), who were awarded Star baker in Sweet Indulgence this week for their amazing Mielle Feuille, that they produced in the Puff Pastry Challenge. Chris product could grace any bakery and Krishna presentation dessert was stunning.
Creative Dessert – Chefs of the week, Viva, Natalie and Chloe
Well done to Viva, Natalie and Chloe, who were voted chef of the week, in the Lords Kitchen Dessert Challenge, for their amazing plating skill. This was firstly a collaboration task, as students brought in one sweet ingredient each and then were put in random groups. The groups were given 2 hours to prepare the different components using their ingredients alongside the store cupboard basics, to make their restaurant standard dessert. Once the groups had made the diffident components it was then an individual plating task. The standard was immense and i’m sure you will agree that the winning desserts could be served at any fine dining restaurant
Enriched Dough Week
This week in Sweet Indulgence the students learnt more about the science of bread making, whilst making some superb breads, doughnuts, and Churros . The Star Bakers award went to Oscar (11E) and Jennifer (11F), who both made creative and perfectly formed ring doughnuts
Star Baker in Biscuit Week – Mallika and Natasha
Well done Mallika (11F) and Natasha (10E) who were awarded Star baker in biscuit week, as they successfully managed to make a uniform batch of shop ready biscuits. Natasha made melt in your mouth coconut biscuits with pineapple filling and Mallika made amazing jJammy Dodgers.
Star Baker in Cake week – Natalie Leung (11W)
Well done to Natalie in 11W who was this week’s Star Baker in Sweet Indulgence lesson on Sponge cakes. She decided to link in last weeks chocolate lesson in making the most amazing cake, that could be sold at any luxury bakery. It was almost too good to eat.
Chocolate Week – Star bakers Liana and Jordan
Well done to Liana and Jordan , who were awarded star bakers , in week 3 of Sweet indulgence for their collaboration in making amazing caramel filled chocolates. They challenged themselves and used knowledge from the previous week by making perfect caramel in stead of buying ready made and tempered the chocolate to perfection.
Star baker – Brita Cheng in confectionery week
Well done to Brita who was awarded Star baker in sweet Indulgence this week for the high level of challenge she set herself. She decide to attempt making pulled hard candy and even brought in her own heat proof gloves and mat and the her end product was perfect.
Sweet Indulgence pastry weeks – Star Bakers (Natasha, Henry, Chiara and Natalie)
In the Sweet indulgence pastry weeks students were able to make whatever shortcrust pie or tart they wanted and then following week they could make anything with choux pastry. This was a serious test of their technique and skill in the closing weeks of the course can the standard was high as they battled it out ofor the last star baker awarrdIn the end Natasha won for her superb mango Cream Pie, Henry and Chiara for their proficiency in making eclairs and Natalie for her creativity and challengong herself in making choux pastry swan.
Puff Pastry Challenge – Star bakers: Gwen, Chiara and Cheryl
Today was the Puff Pastry Challenge in Sweet Indulgence, with students being retired to make their own dessert. This was a “Bake Off” style competition with Ms Jolly and Mr Lord judging on the most professional appetizing presentation. Star Bakers were Gwen, and Chiara for their Mielle Feuile and Cheryl for heart shaped apple turnovers
