Chef of the Week – Owen Turner (11N)

This week’s chef of the week came from Lord’s Kitchen and was awarded to Owen for his organisation and perfect pancakes in his Crepes with Peaches and cream dish he designed for the dessert buffet.

This weeks chef’s of the week, came from Mr Lord’s Sweet Indulgence class, where pupils were given an intense skills challenge to make Lemon Meringue Pies.

The three winning pupils were

Kaela- M0ei Townson for be overall working practices

Aurora Fenwick for best pastry

and

Claudia Lau for best meringue

Chef of the week – Joyce Lau

Joyce was given the honour of chef of the week in Lord’s Kitchen, as she really grasped the brief and made a batch of uniform, perfectly cooked mushroom and cheese tartlets. She worked methodically and in a well organised manner and has really made progress in skills and coincidence. We;; done!

Chefs of the Week

This week’s Chefs of teh Week were chosen by Nathan, a chef lecturer from the HK Culinary Academy, whilst the Lord’s Kitchen pupisl were there at a workshop.

He choose Melodie Karbassian, Amelia King and Chiara Urch, as they had the most hygienic and organsied working practices, whilst making their Chicken Kiev’s. Well done!

He found this a really hard decision, as all pupils were amazing and their food .looked and tasted great.

Chef’s of the Week

This week the Chef’s of the week were chosen from the two Sweet Indulgence Elements, after they had completed their cake decorating on the Advanced Piping Skills, workshop at Complete Deelite. There were so many students that could of been choosen, but the Wilton trained instructors were ask to make decision on which they thought were best. After much deliberation, Claudia Lau was chosen for her consistency and design, Farrah Ullah for the range of different techniques and professional finish and Aiden Kent was the best of the boys, with a lot of intricacy in his piping.

This weeks chefs of the week from Lord’s Kitchen, were Amelia King and Chiara Urch for their great organisation and teamwork to make perfect Ragu Fetuccini.

Chef of the Week – Jason Li (11R)

Chef of the Week this week is Jason Li for his excellent butchery skills, when jointing a chicken in  Lord’s kitchen. Not only was he first to finish, but he also left the least amount of meat on the circus. photo 3 (12)photo 4 (11)DSC_7850

Lord’s Kitchen week 2 – Vegetables

Week 2 of Lord’s kitchen pupils began by learning about different vegetable classifications and realising that a cucumber and tomatoes are actually fruits. Pupils then worked on improving their knife skills further, by learning how to do different vegetable cuts and prepare their Mise-en-Place for a stir fry and  soup. This saw some excellent Julienne carrot and Brunoise of onion. delicious dishes were produced and no-one walked away  hungry. The soup was even sold to staff and may compliment were received   This weeks chef of the week  was Ann  He, as she worked with accuracy and precision and in a methodical manner at all times. Chef of the Week – Jessica Gdowski (10D)

Jessica become this week’s featured chef, after her intricate skills when vegetable carving in Lord’s Kitchen Elements class, making a perfect apple swan and tomato rose. Well done excellent for the first attempt.

ESF Masterchef Final

On the 13th June the 2nd ESF Masterchef Final took place, at King George V school.

Pupils were give the brief of Iconic Hong Kong and asked to use their creative flare to interpret this how they wanted and they would have one and half hours to make their dish.

Representing island school for the Juniors ( working in pairs) was Kaela- Mei Townson (9W) and Melodie Karbassian (9W). They decided to show the history of Hong Kong on  plate, with the British influence of fish cakes and chips, Japanese Teriyaki Salmon skewers and Crab spring rolls. these were represented don a long plate, with the dishes growing in height to represent that growth of the sky scrappers along Victoria Harbor.

jason Lim (10R) was Island school’s competitor for the Seniors and he decided to make a East/West Fusion of Chinese Spiced Rack of Lamb, with hairy melon stuffed with “lucky mushrooms,” served with hoe made Pasta with mint pesto. he certainly gave himself a challenge but he completed with time to spare.

The judging was very close, with the Island school competitors coming runner up to Sha Tin College in both sections.

Well done to to everyone who took parts, the standard of food was amazing and could have graced the best restaurants in Hong Kong
