Food lover’s Guide – Finale
In the final two weeks of Food Lover’s Guide to Culture, pupils were given the opportunity to make anything they wanted, so long as it represented their culture. they also had to do a presentation about it afterwards, to explain why they choose it, the origin and cultural root, shopping for ingredients in the wet markets, how to make it, feedback from others and personal reflections.
We had a really good mix of traditional foods from all parts of Asia, England and Australia and a few fusion dishes which incorporated different aspects of the pupils heritage.
Below is the link to my favourite video presentation by Goldie Wong , who really incaptulated what the course was all about.
Class 2 – Y9 Cake competition
The cake competition is certainly hotting up, with 3 students going through to the final from the 2nd class, as we could not decide on the favourite.
Firstly Katriona McWhirter with her UP cake.
Next Kiara Jim with her Elmo cake
and Alessandra SCHIANCHI, with her Garfield cake.
Amazing for 45 mins decorating time

Kaela Mei Townson (9W)/Melodie D Karbassian(9W)
Congratulations to these two girls, who won this year’s Lower School MasterChef competition, at this year’s spring Fair. They performed amazingly with the judges being particularly impressed with their teamwork and creativity. They showed many kills in making and presenting their Trio of Citrus dessert and it tasted tangy and sweet, with a great balance of textures. Very Impressive and they are already excited about the ESF final in June.
Jason Lin (10R) – Upper School MasterChef Winner 2014
Well done to Jason, who won the Upper School MasterChef competition, at this years Spring fair. He performed amazingly, showing a large range of skills and techniques, and produced two superbly presented dished that tasted delicious. This is a brilliant achievement as he beat many other competitors from the 6th form. Russell Doctroive (ex-land school student and head Chef at Fish and Meat restaurant), judged the competition said “there is no way i could have produced dishes of that standard aged 14.”
Featured Chef – Ravin Schmidl
I would like to congratulate Ravin for the skill he has shown throughout the GCSE Food Tech, course.
His final product of a Pineapple, Mango and Coconut Meringue Pie showed excellent skill, tasted absolutely amazing and was a great twist on an classic dessert.
He has also helped with the catering for events and just won the cake decorating competition, due to his piping skill.
