This week my designer of the week is Pria. I really liked the way she has taken on board the design strategies we have looked at and applied them to her design work for the MP3 speaker. Well done Pria!!

Some more of my Yr 9’s completed their lamps today with excellent results well done Isabelle and Jisoo. I love the lighting effect created by jisoo’s lamp. Can’t wait to see how isabelles looks in a darker space.
Mr Roper’s Designer of the Week
May 27, 2015 Mr RThis week my designer of the week is Justin. He completed his lamp which he has worked hard to finish to a high standard over the last few weeks. The concept with the lamp is what is really interesting. Instead of just being a simple lamp the fact that the top part is changeable allows for kits to be made that could effectively change the lamp design and allow it to be flat packed easier. This is great design thinking. Well done Justin!!
Designers of the week – “Pointing” in the right direction…
April 30, 2015 Tim ParkerAnn and Anna (Y10) of the 3D Product Design Elements class took on a nautical theme this week in the “Speed Innovation Challenge”. Students were tasked with designing an making an innovative product from a set list of materials, with only 3 hours to brainstorm, design, develop and manufacture! All outcomes were impressive given the time and resource restrictions, with two designers, Ann He (10E) and Anna Choi (10W), sailing away with the most intricate design. They produced an ornamental, nautical compass from only two of their available resources (sustainable minds?) and applied some advanced metalworking skills (on the metal working lathe) to engineer precise fittings for their compass. Each pair will be applying their best sales tactics to try and persuade the remainder of the class to invest in their product, based on their competitive marketing strategies. Will it be sink or swim for the designers of the week? Find out next week!

Well it’s taken a while but the lighting project is starting to reach its end with some final products being realised. These students have all worked hard to achieve high quality outcomes. What has been really encouraging is the commitment to quality right to the end which demonstrates growing maturity as designers. These lights are by Douglas, Aayush, Wing and Krishna.
