  • Capturing your sweet indulgence bake sale

November 13, 2014 Chileshe ChisuloCapturing your sweet indulgence bake sale

Today  in sweet indulgence, students carried out a simulation of a production line. They made various products which they later sold to members of staff. This was a very challenging task because it involved  production of a large quantity  of  chelsea buns, bakewell tarts and blueberry muffins. All students were briefed about this task at the start of term. And they all have been busy preparing themselves by completing an online safety and hygiene certificate, which qualified them for such a task. We saw some very good results on this test with many students scoring marks above 95%. This shows how dedicated they were to this challenge. The day went quiet well, even though students were working in a pressurised environment and against time.  It was pleasing to see students organise themselves, collaborate well with each other and produce such good work.

November 2, 2014 Chileshe ChisuloCapturing your sweet indulgence - Chilled desserts

This week students learnt about chilled desserts. They looked at different ways chilled desserts can be flavoured and then worked in pairs to make their own desserts. They were given a choice between panacotta and cheesecake. They also chose the colours and flavours to use in their desserts.

  • Cake pops

This week in sweet indulgence students made Cake pops. This was a relaxed welcome wind down to this half term. Although the cake pos themselves are easy to make, students enjoyed decorating their adorable creations. We saw a lot of imaginative and original designs. Some students used melted chocolate, various sprinkles and butter icing to finish off their designs yet others preferred to challenge their manipulative skills by using fondant.

  • Cupcake wars – Sweet Indulgence (week 6)

October 10, 2014 Chileshe ChisuloCupcake wars - Sweet Indulgence (week 6)

This week, students were engaged in yet another exciting challenge – cupcake wars. They worked in pair to make and decorate a batch of cupcakes. It was interesting to see creativity at work here. We saw many students using the decorating techniques they learnt from our recent trip to complete deelite. Many used a lot of interesting colours and flavours to finish off their cupcakes. When all the cakes were decorated, students were asked to present four of their cupcakes. The class then voted for the overall best cupcakes. Connor,Smriti,Rachel and Jenny worn the title of bakers of the week this week.
