Year 7 Visual Communication Work

The Year 7’s have been working their way through a unit of visual communication in ICT.  They organise their various outcomes form the unit on pictochart.  One objective for this unit was to try and apply the principles of good visual design and set out the learning outcomes on the pictochart according to these principles.   The following are examples of good work by a number of students and serve as exemplars of how to use this tool to show learning.  PLease click to see larger versions of the images.

Yr 7 Pot stands – Woodworking skills

The year 7 Pot stand project is nearly completed.  Students learned new practical skills using a variety of traditional hand tools and some workshop machinery.  For the majority, this was the first time they had done any woodworking.  Particular highlights were using the sanding machine and making cross-halving joints with a chisel and mallet!

Food Revolution Day

As today is Food Revolution day, we decided to look at this with the Y7 classes and make the Tomato and Basil recipe from the website, where there are lots of healthy recipes to try.

Pupils loved this and really got into the swing of the day , gaining a real understanding of the importance of food education and signing and sharing the petition.  soem quotes from the class were “the best thing we have ever made” and “i can’t believe how delicious it is.”

Masterchef semi-final Juniors

At Lunch today the remaining 6 pairs of Y7-9 students battles it out to get one of the 4 places in the grand final. The brief was a creative dessert and tension was high as pupils got under way.

The standard of final dishes was superb and it wa very close for runner up places but Lucy Acheson and Ottavia De Rosa were run away winners, with their very creative 4 season dessert, making the chefs of the week.
